Graduation Day June 25 2010

Hi,
This is the reason I have been away.
My grand daughter graduated this year. Her poor escort has allergies to cats and she owns two of them and they just love him. So his eyes were really giving him a problem.
It was a beautiful graduation and the supper was lovely. The speeches were short but very heart warming and sincere. We are so proud of her as she was really struggling with school a while ago and she wasn't sure she was going to make it. She enrolled in a program called PACE where the student body is small and they can work at their own pace. This was just the thing she needed and so this is the culmination of all her hard work. Her goal is to become a nurse.
Isn't she lovely?
I think her grad card in the last post and her dress match pretty closely since I had no real idea what the dress looked like because all I had to go on was a fuzzy phone pic.
Have a Blessed day.

GRADUATION DAY third post today

Hi,
This is my third post today because I will be away and I wanted to be sure I didn't forget to post the recent cards.
Also because my camera will be taking tons of grad
pictures and I didn't want to lose any.
The theme for my granddaughters grad is Hollywood, glamour and glitz or as the invitation says, "Lights-Camera-Life". So I strayed a little from the tradional Grad cap and gown.
The white background is that gorgeous corrugated card stock from (where else?) the DS.
The grad dress was stamped with silver ink and embossed with the heat gun. ( I have much to learn about stamping).
Cap and scroll and dress were popped up with glue dots and the tassel made from yarn. Diamonds along the hem were in the stash. I have no idea where they come from as I just pick up things along the way. I think it was on a visit to B.C..
Since the theme was bling, I added a bright removable flower, again from SVGCuts.com to give it some pop.
Thanks to Curt O'Brien from Curt's World for the idea for the gown. I know it is supposed to be for a wedding gown but it sure lent itself to this grad card.
Have a Blessed day.

A Possible Male Card-second post today

Hi,
The flower has been in my stash since I started blogging. It was a freebie from JakHeath.com and I just didn't have any idea what to use it for. Then I made the first sewing card and the colors just seemed so right. The handmade paper came from the DS. I used a bit of gold ink to distress the card stock as it was too white. The envelope is lined with the scraps of the handmade paper. Just seems to finish it off, doesn't it? The place for the sentiment is an svg file from SVGCuts.com and it is called My Mothers Attic. Just popped it up a bit with a pop dot. I have no sentiment on the card as I don't know what I will use it for yet.
Have a Blessed day.

Engagement Card

Hi,
My friend, who moved to South Korea, asked me to make an engagement card for her. I wasn't really into doing rings or such so felt a nice simple card would be appropriate.
The white background paper was so gorgeous and as usual came from the DS. Ran the blue background through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots folder. The chrysanthemum and the heart shaped border are both svg files from SVGCuts.com along with my trusty Cricut. The heart border has more to it but I just wanted a simple border so only took one part of a three part file. I really must get some sentiment stamps. lol The congratulations was computer generated.
Added some pearls, stickles and pop dots and voila.
Have a Blessed day.

Another male card-Birthday

Hi
Well another card for a male. Gee it is hard isn't it to make something male?
This was for my brother who is a few years older than me. Then we have another brother who is a few years older than him. So his will come up later this year.
The card is 6.5" x 5". The first layer was just brown cardstock and sewn onto the white card stock which I distressed with a gold ink and it doesn't show too well in the photo. I layered some handmade paper (store bought at the DS)which I cut with the fancy scissors. Then with some cut outs from my trusty Cricut (no cart name available)I added the embellishments. The Happy B-day was distressed a little and a pop dot added and that was that. I often practice on the Cricut and then throw them into a box so that when I want a card I just grab from the box and have no idea where they came from or if they were SVGcuts or from a cart. Unless it is from Lyrical Letters which I just love.
I think the sewing just finishes the card off. I have some neat stitches on my old machine (Sears Kenmore which DH bought for me when we got married 32 years ago). I plan on using some more of them as I go along.
Have a Blessed day.

A Secret Message Card

Hi
Today's card was made for a male friend of ours. I seem to have two different types of card and I call this kind a "Whimsey Card" because I made it playful and it is not my usual fancy thing. I didn't want a mushy serious card so figured something playful would be OK.
This card was thanks to Dawn at http://www.dawnsstampingthoughts.net/ and it is called a hidden message card. I didn't photograph the inside because all I had as a hidden message was Happy Birthday written many times. Computer generated, of course. I really must invest in a Happy Birthday stamp. lol
The truck is a "borrowed" svg cut probably from SVGCuts.com. I know I am terrible at remembering where I got all my stuff from. So I apologize if I "borrowed" it from someone else. The truck is cut from silver Dollar Store card stock. The blue paper is embossed with the Cuttlebug and the folder is Swiss Dots. (One of these days I will surprise myself and everyone else and get some real designer paper lol). Won't that be a treat?
Have a Blessed day.

Day of Mourning 2010

Hi
We have a Day of Mourning for the people who have lost their lives in work place accidents here in the city where I live.
For the last couple of years I have been asked to make a thank you card for the dignitaries that preside over the proceedings.
This year the theme was the blue forget-me-not flower, the ribbon of hope was orange and the crest for the Day of Mourning.
The cardstock was white. I colored the orange circle and the forget-me not. This was my second attempt at coloring with colored pencils. Thanks to Chris from Mudmaven Designs for the encouragement.
This was then covered with vellum and the cut out from Lyrical Letters on the Cricut. There were 3 cards and each cut out was slightly different but all were from Lyrical letters. Love that cart.
Have a Blessed day.

Birthday Wallet

Hi,
I really needed an idea for my grandsons birthday which falls on June 16 and the year he was born he was born on Father's Day.
As I was looking at the sites I follow I was pleased to see a Father's Day card by Nicole of http://canadiannickelscrapn.blogspot.com/ . It was perfect for my masculine birthday card.
I didn't have any linen looking card stock but had recently picked up this textured heavy paper at, you guessed it, the Dollar Store. I wanted to use sewing on it so instead of gluing it I just sewed it altogether. There are, of course, a few little meandering stitches but that's O.K..
The Cowichan people knitted beautiful sweaters and they used to say, "if there are no mistakes, then it is not an original". So------this is an original. lol
Have a Blessed day.

45th Anniversary Card L and P

Hi,
This card is for my brother and his wife who have been married 45 years. It is 6" x 6" because, again, it grew and grew.
The card base is white, the beige is a linen type paper and the frame is from SVGCuts.com with the ribbon threaded through the little holes. The gorgeous picture is from CAJOLINE-SCRAP. She has the most gorgeous pictures and many freebies. The site is in French but can be translated.
The sentiment is computer generated and I distressed the edges with gold sparkly ink and used a dimensional to pop it up. The ribbon, flower and paper are from my stash of Dollar Store supplies. I used a strip of the picture printed onto plain paper and edged with a border punch from Fiskars and a wee bit of sparkle to add some life to the inside of the card. Sorry I didn't get a picture of the inside.
The envelope was way too big sideways so I just cut it straight down on the sides and glued them back together. I then added another part of the picture to the inside of the envelope for a little life and voila, there is my card.
Have a Blessed day.
